Alder
Grades 5-6
Monday-Thursday 9-1pm (Drop off at 8:45)
Alder is a class we have been dreaming of creating for a few years. This is a transition time in growing up and it deserves it’s own space. Kids at this age are capable, becoming independent and practicing leadership skills. They are honing in on their strengths and still thirsty for information. At KLA we love feeding this knowledge and supporting their growing independence in their interests.

Curriculum
Alder students are straddling the line between elementary and middle school and they need engaging material to match. We use seasonal studies connect Alder students to the rhythm of the farm through life skills. We also focus on math, reading and writing skills through hands on experiences.
Independence
This age is seeking to develop their independence but maybe not quite practiced in the skill enough. We find independence to be a skill that goes along with resilience. Students of this age find purpose in doing and this builds their confidence.
Practical Skills
Children will learn to take care of their environment and themselves with guided independence. Each day they will contribute to the operation of the farm through feeding animals and preparing and maintaining the gardens. And exploring entrepreneurial opportunities.
Social Skills
Being in community gives children the opportunity to practice resolving conflicts, delayed gratification and collaboration. At Kitsap Life Academy we believe it is important to foster skills of critical thinking and civil discourse.
