Saplings
Grades 3-4
Monday-Thursday 8:45-12:30pm
Saplings are concerned with where they belong within the context of the group. At Kitsap Life Academy they will be supported socially as they embark on this learning and establish positive social interactions, appropriate behaviors, peer acceptance and development of their social self. Academically, Saplings are expanding on the foundations they learned as seedlings and collecting information. Our program is outdoor experiential learning that brings together math, language and science combined with first- hand experience, observation, analysis, and experimentation. Saplings will develop creative real-life problem solving skills, leadership, adaptability, teamwork, resilience, self- direction, retention and acceptance of their mistakes.
Experiencial Learning
Our program is designed to keep your child engaged and explore the wonders of the world through the farm. Children interact with the animals every day, build forts in the woods and run through the meadow observing the changing seasons of the farm.
Practical Skills
Children will learn to take care of their environment and themselves with guided independence. Each day students help with chores around the farm and seasonally are a big part of planning, preparing and growing a garden.
Social Skills
Being in community gives children the opportunity to practice resolving conflicts, delayed gratification and collaboration. We believe it is important to learn critical thinking and how to engage in civil discourse. These are skills that our society is losing and we want to help preserve. At Kitsap Life Academy we will help foster these skills.
Seasonal Study
Every 4-6 weeks we will be focusing on a new theme, relating to the land. Through this study we will explore academics as well as creative expressions of learning.
